Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot 2000
Wine Review Date: 01/02/2002 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: An open, straightforward red of length and softness, but not much in the complexity department. Its fresh confection-like aromas of plums and red berries are balanced with cedar/vanilla oak, while its palate is long, generous and a little jammy. Good commercial quality. (16.4, Drink 2002-2005+, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot 2002
Wine Review Date: 12/07/2004 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Rather herbaceous blend with snow pea-like aromas of raspberry and plum confection over nuances of cherries and menthol. Forward and weedy, its lean palate of under-ripe fruit finishes thin and sappy. (Margaret River, 14.6, 2004-2007)
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot 2003
Wine Review Date: 22/11/2005 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: An elegant and brightly flavoured shorter-term cabernet blend with a sweet, slightly cooked and oaky aroma of menthol-like fruit, cedar and vanilla. Smooth and creamy, its moderately full palate is intense and lively, lacking great depth but pleasingly tight and well structured. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot 2004
Wine Review Date: 22/06/2006 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Delicate floral and cedary aromas of black plums, cherries and mocha oak reveal capsicum-like herbal undertones. Full to medium weight, it’s long, smooth and supple with black berries, plums and cherry fruit firmly framed by pliant tannins. Elegant and harmonious, with a lingering core of flavour that almost conceals its thread of greenness. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2000
Wine Review Date: 01/02/2002 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Stylish, finely ripened, long and elegant cabernet with excellent potential. Smoky vanilla oak-derived aromas lend complexity and depth to small, but intense red and black berry, dusty and lightly leafy violet-like cabernet qualities. Smooth, supple and creamy, the palate offers vibrant, bright dark berry flavours and finely balanced cedary oak, with a fine, tight backbone of tannins. Great value. (18.1, Drink 2008-2012, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
Wine Review Date: 12/07/2004 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Tomatoey aromas of weedy, stressed berry fruit and cedar/vanilla oak lack customary brightness and intensity. Smooth, supple and cedary, the palate presents some pleasing small berry flavours, but without the length to mask its austere, green finish. (Margaret River, 15.3, 2004-2007)
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2003
Wine Review Date: 06/06/2005 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Intense aromas of cassis and red berries with sweet cedary nuances of vanilla and chocolate-like oak overlie suggestions of earthy depth and complexity. Its fine and elegant palate of medium to full weight delivers intense flavours of cassis, dark olives and plums with undertones of dried herbs and sweet oak. Firm and fine-grained, it’s an honest wine with just a sappy hint of herbaceousness at the finish. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Wine Review Date: 23/06/2006 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: A very good, elegant and fully ripened cabernet whose lively aromas of small black and red berries, red plums and dark cherries are backed by dusty notes of chocolates and dried herbs. Supple, fine and stylish, it’s quite full in weight, deeply flavoured with a lingering core of blackberry and mulberry flavour and framed by firm, assertive tannins. Fine balance and potential . (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2003
Wine Review Date: 12/07/2004 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Fruity, tangy chardonnay with aromas of squashed cumquat and grapefruit and underlying herbal, tobaccoey influences. Creamy and almost brassy, its juicy palate of bright tropical and citrus flavours is long and tightly constrained by racy acidity. Well enough made; just lacks the depth and structure for a higher rating. (Margaret River, 16.8, 2005-2008)
Wine: Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2004
Wine Review Date: 22/11/2005 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Pungent aromas of grapefruit, melon and tropical fruits with peachy undertones of wheatmeal and vanilla oak precede a long, juicy and youthful palate of concentrated, almost exaggerated chardonnay flavour. Its lingering and pristine core of fruit finishes with clean acids and a suggestion of pineapple. Just lacks genuine style and balance. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2005
Wine Review Date: 23/06/2006 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Complex and heavily worked aromas of grapefruit, melon and green cashew reveal suggestions of wheatmeal and matchstick, with some spicy, almost spiky nuances. Presently forward and slightly cloying, its ripe, juicy palate of peach, melon and tropical fruit is handsomely backed by spicy vanilla oak, finishing with tangy citrus flavours. Likely to flesh out further. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Cabernet Blend 2003
Wine Review Date: 23/06/2006 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: A deep, powerful, rather closed and brooding wine whose layers of flavour and texture should come together in time. Assertive dark chocolate and vanilla oak slightly overshadows its restrained aromas of blackberry, dark plum and dark cherry fruit, while nuances of rosemary and violets slowly emerge. Sumptuous, dark-fruited and intensely flavoured, it’s still coming to grips with its powerful oak and very firm and slightly awkward malbec-driven extract. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Cabernet Blend 2003
Wine Review Date: 22/11/2005 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: A wine that slowly opens up to reveal its sweet fruit, elegance and charm. Dusty aromas of small blackcurrants, blackberries and raspberries are backed by assertive and slightly raw smoky and cedary oak. The palate is long, firm and drying, with vibrant small berry flavours handsomely oaked and supported by a tight-knit extract. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 1998
Wine Review Date: 01/10/1999 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: A rich, generous and up-front chardonnay which finishes a little thin and hot behind some slightly spiky acids. Attractive and slightly mealy citrus fruit and nutty, buttery oak should develop along the rather oily and creamy palate. (16.6, Drink 2000-2003+, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2000
Wine Review Date: 01/05/2001 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: It's very ripe, rather lean and could use more palate length, but this is a fragrant, if rather oaky young chardonnay with some fineness and attitude. There's a hint of cashew behind its forward grapefruit, melon and tropical fruit flavours, while its front palate is juicy and sappy, before a short, but savoury and drying finish. (17.0, Drink 2002-2005, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2001
Wine Review Date: 01/02/2002 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Fine, stylish chardonnay of balance and length, complexity and integration. A delicate honeysuckle aroma of lime juice, tropical melon and grapefruit flavours has a restrained background of lightly toasty oak. Fleshy and supple, the palate offers pleasing weight and baby fat texture, before a revitalising finish of lemon and mineral acids. (18.6, Drink 2006-2009, January 2003 release)
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2003
Wine Review Date: 05/04/2004 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: Very stylish, structured and concentrated Margaret River chardonnay whose delicate perfume of peach, tinned pineapple and pear, apple and ruby grapefruit is interwoven with creamy lees and oak-derived influences. Vibrant, smooth and very elegant, its juicy core of bright fruit flavours is harmoniously knit with nutty, savoury oak and soft, but refreshing acids. 18.7, drink 2008-2011 ( )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2004
Wine Review Date: 22/06/2006 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: A modern and stylish chardonnay whose complex, spicy aromas of melon and grapefruit are backed by smoky vanilla oak, hints of lime and creamy, leesy undertones. Long and sumptuous, it’s smooth, creamy palate of grapefruit, melon and peach is underpinned by a chalky minerality and punctuated by a tangy, citrusy finish. Very complex and stylish. (Margaret River, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Red Blend 1997
Wine Review Date: 01/03/1999 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: This very classy, poised and balanced Bordeaux blend flaunts its maturation in new oak with smoky ground coffee influences to match its concentrated and lightly greenish, but otherwise pristine small black and red berry fruits. Long, lingering and finely extracted, it will develop well in the bottle. (18.2, Drink 2005-2009, )
Wine: Vasse Felix Heytesbury Red Blend 1999
Wine Review Date: 01/03/2001 Source : Jeremy Oliver, 2006
Wine Tasting Note: A modern show pony of a young red, this is a hugely oaked, smoky red blend whose intense, well-ripened flavours of cassis, mulberries and plums are backed by powerful mocha barrel ferment influences. There's brightness and richness along the palate, which bursts with small red and black berries, while the tannins are fine and tight. Perhaps showing its best cards too soon. (17.6, Drink 2004-2007, )
