Matahiwi is a newly planted family owned vineyard and winery located in the Wairarapa, just north of Martinborough. The estate has planted one third Sauvignon Blanc and two thirds Pinot Noir. The vineyard soils are typical of the blend of free-draining gravely light loams running through Opaki, the Glandstone area and South to Martinborough. These fine alluvial soils cover ancient riverbeds of the Waingawa and Ruamahunga rivers.
