Elderton was the middle name of Samuel Tolley, who established the vineyard in the middle of Nuriootpa in around 1900. During the wine glut of the late 70’s, the extremely rundown vineyard was placed on the market and was purchased by the Ashmead family in 1979, who worked tirelessly to bring it back to its original glory. The Elderton label was then born in 1982, and from this time, the wines have established a truly enviable reputation and continue to gain huge recognition worldwide. Now controlled by the second generation of Ashmead’s, Cameron and Allister, the boys intention is to continue handcrafting classic wines that show varietal definition and regional character.
