"Don’t be put off by the less-than-dark colour and the herbal aromas: this is a lovely, drink-me-now red. A fi ne boned blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc from Mount Barker in WA’s Great Southern Region, it was made by Rob Diletti at Castle Rock Estate and shows a deft touch, with typical tobacco, leafy and olive-like aromas of cabernet franc giving it an eerily St Emilion-like charm. The herbal notes may send those who think cabernet should smell like dry port scurrying for cover but this is a delicious drink. It’s a real alternative for those legions of us who are tired of being assaulted, rather than pleasured, by modern Australian red wines. Drink now to fi ve years.
