Comments and Tasting Notes:

Established in 1985 on a working sheep station, Coombend Vineyard lies on the east coast of Tasmania overlooking the spectacular scenery of Moulting Lagoon and the Freycinet Peninsula. The combination of southerly latitudes and Tasmania’s truly cool climate, softened by Coombend’s proximity to the ocean and it’s generous weather, produces elegant wines with great purity of aroma and flavour. The label depicts the original 19th century mail staging post which lies on the property.

Colour is a deep garnet. Showing powerful, ripe aromas of cassis and spicy plum with only a hint of cool climate herbaceousness, the oak adds a touch of coffee, dark chocolate and pencil box. Initial impact is of the firm, dry tannins of youth. However, the profile is certainly not hollow, with a combination of savoury coffee and sage flavours mingling with a core of dark, spicy/sweet sloe and plum.
