Comments and Tasting Notes:
Airlie Bank wines are made by Kate Goodman at Punt Road winery in Coldstream. In the 1850's Airlie Bank was the original name of Melbourne's Punt Road Hill. This property was owned by a Scottish lawyer called David Ogilvy who named the property after Airlie Castle in Scotland, the spiritual home of the Ogilvy clan. Ogilvy planted a vineyard on the banks of the hill stretching down to the Yarra River. According to the history books the wines made on this site were “celebrated” by the local community. These days the vineyards are long gone and Airlie Bank is prime real estate within walking distance of Melbourne's CBD. The vineyards are now located in the cool climate of the picturesque Yarra Valley.
