Punt Road winery is now owned solely by the Napoleone family who established Red Rich Fruits in the 1940's, growing apples and stone fruit. In 1987 the Napoleone Vineyard was planted at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley and today many of Punt Road’s wines are single vineyard wines from this original site. Since then more sites in the region have been planted bringing to total to 75ha under vine today. Joe Napoleone’s brief to Kate Goodman and the team at Punt Road is one of no compromise in the search for excellence in cool-climate, Yarra Valley wines. Judicious use of French Oak plays a key role in what amounts to minimal interventionist winemaking. The latest batch of releases are some of the strongest yet from Punt Road; a label whose best days are very clearly ahead of it.
