Tasting Note

Pale gold in colour, the nose has aromas of a European orchard with ripe stone fruits and

almonds. The fruity palate has a generous mouthfeel with a persistent finish.

Like we say “hanging with friends” and this is how you should enjoy this lovely estate grown

blend, reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Bellisimo!

Vintage 2014

2014 was excellent across North east Victoria, with growing conditions dry throughout the

whole growing season. Steady ripening resulted in fantastic quality and quantity of fruit with

lovely natural acidity.

Winemaking

All three varieties were treated in a similar manner, pressed out very slightly to express

delicate f lavours with minimal skin damage and phenolic uptake. The free run juice was then

chilled to 15 degrees and fermented under a strict regime for 2 weeks to ensure maximum

f lavours where extracted and subtle aromas. They were then brought together like a well

conducted orchestra to develop a round rich style that can be appreciated on its own or with

food.

Clarification - filtration kept to a minimum to retain more natural flavours and a

richer palate.

The Blend - Trebbiano, Vermentino and Fiano

The climate and growing environment of the King Valley has been known to be uncanningly

similar to that of Southern Italy. Hence, the richness and quality of traditional Italian grape

varieties grow beautifully in the Valley.

Trebbiano is one of the most widely planted varieties of grape in the world. It tends to yield

subtle, fresh and fruity wine. Also known as Ugni blanc, in particular in France, the Trebbiano

family account for around a third of all white wine in Italy.

Vermentino is a light-skinned amber-yellow wine grape variety, primarily planted in Sardinia

and Liguria under the name Pigato. The grapes hang in pyramidal bunches and the vines are

often grown on slopes where they can benefit from the additional light. The grape is said

to have been cultivated in the North of Sardinia, often under the name Arratelau, since the

fourteenth century.

Fiano is a white Italian grape variety that is grown primarily in the Campania region of

southern Italy and on the island of Sicily. This is a fairly strong f lavored white wine grape .

The grape has a long history in the Campanian region and is believed to have been the grape

behind the ancient Roman wine Apianum.

About the Vineyard:

Ciccone Estate and Outlaws Peak Vineyard are nestled in Cheshunt, in the tranquil and

picturesque King Valley of North East Victoria’s Legends, Wine & High Country, a terrain that

ranges from snow capped Alps to sun baked fields. The valley’s continental climate provides

warm days and cool nights, influenced by the katabatic breeze that sweeps northward down the

valley from the high country. A range of microclimates are available from the slightly warmer

valley f loors to the bracingly cool upper slopes, creating the perfect environment for producing

optimal fruit, which allows us to specialise in a variety of unique wines and styles.
